It is that time of the year again, “New year, new me”! It is also time for everyone to create your New Year’s resolution that gets lost somewhere throughout the year. But wouldn’t you like this year to be different? There’s a way for you to create and maintain goals to make you look back on 2019 in satisfaction. So, let’s make 2019 SMART!

Creating SMART Goals

SMART goals are effective and achievable goals that will set yourself up for success. To make a goal SMART, it needs to be…

S- Specific: Be specific with your goal and include the 6 “W”s (who, what, when, where, which, why).

M- Measurable: Set milestones or steps needed to complete your goal.

A- Achievable: Goals are meant to inspire motivation, so is achieving your goal possible?

R- Realistic: Mainly with business goals. Make it relevant with your profession to help your business and your career.

T- Time-Bound: there is no such thing as an impossible goal, just an impossible timeline! (if your goal has steps, make a timeline for each step).

By transforming your goals into SMART goals, you are one step closer to a successful and productive year!

Maintain your SMART Goals

As most of us know, creating goals is the easy part. Sticking to them is a whole new story. Sometimes our goals overwhelm us so we just give up on them, or we just lose track of them. Fear not, here are some steps to ensure that you stay on track!

Step 1: First Create 5 SMART goals that you would like to complete in the next 2 years. Make sure these goals cover all aspects of your life (career, financial, education, family, attitude, physical etc.).

Step 2: Look at your list and decide which of these would have the most positive impact on your life if it was completed in 24 hours.

Step 3: Post these goals somewhere you can see them daily.

Step 4: Work on your number 1 goal all the time! Take turns working on your other 4 goals as needed.

According to author and business success Brian Tracy, if you work on your one major goal every day, you will find that you will feel more accomplished (Brian Tracy. 2016, May 10). The reason for this is that your number one goal is usually the hardest to complete. Most people throughout the year, spend most of their time working with the easier, less meaningful goals and find that after they do this, they do not feel that sense of accomplishment.

Let’s face it, the world of technology, work culture, and professionalism has changed in the last decade. Today, employees are more empowered. As the economy grows and the job market picks up, employee engagement and retention have become a top priority. Focus has shifted to the well-being of employees and what to do to keep them happy and loyal to your company.

A recent Forbes article titled, The Importance of the Employee Feedback Loop, noted that the employee-manager relationship is consistently ranked as a top driver of employee satisfaction. Samstaff believes strongly in assessing and constantly improving the employee experience.

To measure and assess be employee loyalty, samstaff conducts an annual colleague survey to obtain feedback from our employees. In our most recent survey, 88% of the colleagues noted the effectiveness of their candidate advocate “listening and being responsive to their needs” above 4 on a scale of 1-5. “First impressions were nothing but positive,” noted a recently placed colleague.

Another coding colleague who responded to the survey noted that “my candidate advocate was available on my schedule in the evenings and weekends to answer all my questions.” 85% percent of the respondents scored their overall experience with samstaff higher than a 4.5 on a scale of 1-5. Several respondents commented that samstaff “feels like a family” and that they “cannot wait for their next assignment.”

Suggestions for improvement from the survey included creating a new assignment mentor program and additional enhancements to make the samstaff on-boarding process even smoother.

Extensive research is available to reinforce improved employee engagement enhances overall retention as well as increases growth and profitability for most organizations. The findings of a Forbes Insights and SilkRoad survey of 212 U.S.-based CFOs and financial executives reveal the fastest-growing firms put greater emphasis on understanding their employees and engaging them compared with slower-growing firms. samstaff plans to continue to focus on employee engagement and changing the perspective of working for a staffing company by improving the employee experience.

We thought you might enjoy these scary ICD-10 codes this week!

Y93.D- Activities involved arts and handcraft
If you’ve tried to make a Halloween costume, you know it is never as easy as you think it will be. Use this code for hot-glue-gun burns or scissor slices.

Y04.1- Assault by human bite
Parrots aren’t the only ones to watch out for this season. If a vampire or zombie takes their costume a bit too seriously, this code will record the chomp.

T78.01- Anaphylactic reaction due to peanuts
With a pillowcase full of fun-sized Snickers, who can eat just one? Some kids may be lucky enough to sleep it off with just a stomachache, but for a child with a peanut allergy, a trip to the ER will close out the holiday.

W22.02- Walked into a lamppost
